Lactobacillus Helveticus, is a lactic acid bacterium that should be included in all high quality probiotics. It is the probiotic that works for so many ailments but has been underrated for so long.

However, there are now an unmanageable number of probiotic preparations on the market, all of which promise a healthy intestinal flora.

It is, therefore, important to know the spectrum of activity of the different lacto- and bifidobacteria in order to be able to select a suitable probiotic with this knowledge.

L. reuteri is a lactic acid bacterium with exceptional properties. For example, it has the ability to improve dental health.
It has been shown to relieve inflammation of the gums and reduce plaque, which, of course, reduces the risk of tooth decay.

In babies, L. reuteri leads to a lower risk of allergies and also promotes healthy development of the child’s digestive system and the immune system.

In addition, L. reuteri ensures that babies suffer from colic far less often or that it no longer lasts nearly as painfully and for a long time as it did before.

Scientists conducted a double-blind randomized crossover study with 20 women. All were post menopausal and on average 65 years of age.

The intake of a milk product fermented with Lactobacillus Helveticus increased the calcium level in their blood. That even happened with low parathyroid hormone levels, and , thus, is another beneficial bonus for the probiotic that works.

The low parathyroid hormone level indicates that the bones don’t lose calcium any longer, and that the now circulating calcium within the blood comes from food. Because the Lactobacillus Helveticus now promotes a much better absorption.

Probably every chronic illness is accompanied by inflammatory processes that are initially imperceptible, which then – depending on the personal situation, diet and genetics – can manifest in this or that chronic disease.

Lactobacillus Helveticus – as a study from 2013 showed – inhibits inflammatory processes, as the probiotic reduces the activity of a certain substance (NF-κB).

NF-κB sits, so to speak, in the inflammation control center and gives the starting signal to all inflammatory messengers. NF-κB really gets inflammatory processes going.

If you stop NF-κB, for example with Lactobacillus Helveticus, inflammation decreases along with the risk of developing a chronic disease.

In addition, L. Helveticus, also strengthens the immune system and the health of the intestinal mucosa, which, of course, also increases the resistance to diseases of all kinds. That, again, proves that it truly is a probiotic that works efficiently.

Because too often it is the pitiable condition of the intestinal mucosa that can lead to chronic complaints and, in particular, to autoimmune diseases.

Argentinian researchers published the following findings in the journal BMC Immunology:

Lactobacillus Helveticus also promotes sleep, which is, of course, more than desirable in healing processes of all kinds – chronic or acute illnesses.

A Japanese study from 2006 showed that older people (between 60 and 81) who consumed a probiotic preparation with Lactobacillus Helveticus for three weeks slept better and woke up less often than was the case before the intake.

Lactobacillus Helveticus lowers blood pressure

Another Japanese study proved that Lactobacillus Helveticus has no side effects and that it lowers blood pressure, which is a welcome additional effect for many people.

After taking a probiotic containing Lactobacillus Helveticus for four weeks, scientists observed a decrease in blood pressure in both blood pressure values. The placebo group, however, still demonstrated an increased blood pressure.

Lactobacillus Helveticus lowered the diastolic value in people with normal but slightly elevated blood pressure by an average of 5 mmHg and the systolic value by 3.2 mmHg.

In people with mild but already pathological high blood pressure, the blood pressure fell by 11.2 mmHg (systolic) and 6.5 mmHg (diastolic) when exposed to Lactobacillus Helveticus.

Of course, no side effects could be found while taking the probiotic that works for so many things.

We know for a long time about the influence of the intestinal flora on the psyche. As I report here, it happens again and again that people never had anxiety or depression – until one day they got gastrointestinal complaints.
