Stop Smoking Without Gaining Weight – Here’s How To!

Stop-Smoking

Here’s how to stop smoking without any weight gain –  This is how it works

Many people do not want to stop smoking because they are afraid of gaining weight, but it does not have to be. With my self proven tips, you can easily keep your weight.

Quitting smoking is a sensitive issue, especially for women, because they are scared of gaining a few pounds. Unfortunately, statistics show that this fear is well justified.

Most people who succeded to stop smoking have gained approximately 3 pounds in the first year. However, that should not be a reason to change your plans!

Firstly, health is more important than a few pounds too much on the ribs, and secondly, you do not necessarily have to gain weight if you stop smoking.

Actually, if you’re going to put on some excess weight or not, that completely depends on you and your mental attitude/strength regarding this situation.

Here is why many people  gain weight when they stop smoking

The weight gain after smoking cessation is also due to the fact that nicotine, as well as coffee, has the pleasant effect of slightly stimulating the metabolism and, thus, to stimulate calorie burning.

In addition, people often smoke a cigarette instead of having a snack. Can you see now what I meant by saying that it has to do with your mental attitude?

Most people tend to grab some sort of snacks, usually not the healthy ones, every time they crave a cigarette. Food should not become a substitute for your habit of smoking, though.

In this case, the craving is more about the custom of moving and doing something with your hand, rather than about the nicotine.

Since we know this now, we can find other distractions and build good habits, such as regular exercise, instead.

With my following tips, you too can manage to stop smoking without having to worry about weight gain.

Drinking lots of water detoxifies and makes you look slim

Drink at least 2-3 liters of water and unsweetened tea a day. By the increased fluid intake, your body is properly flushed, which is especially important in the detoxification process after smoking cessation.

If you drink enough water, you will look fresher, it will be good for your skin and hair, it will satiate you for a short while, and you will feel fitter overall.

Also, before each meal, drink a glass of water to replenish your stomach. A glass of cold water in the morning stimulates the metabolism, as well as a lemon in the water burns more calories. An easier way not to gain weight after you stopped smoking does not exist, right?

Start with sports before you stop smoking

Before you stop smoking altogether, you usually conduct the plan of doing so. If you decide to stop, you can start doing sports before that.

By all means, this does not have to degenerate into extreme sports.  Even a small workout for 20 minutes a day is enough to get used to regular exercise. If you’re more of a sporty muff, you can take small walks on certain days, which also boost fat burning.

Not only that, but walking stimulates your happy hormones, too. So, after only approximately ten minutes of walking, you will feel more joyous, positive and energetic. This, as well, is extremely helpful during the nicotine detox phase.

Eat more fruits to maintain your weight

Think about your diet. A diet will never bring the desired long-term effect, so the only possibility is that you change your eating habits in the long run.

Eat more fruits, vegetables, and fiber-rich foods after smoking cessation to boost your digestion and to replenish your vitamin depots.

Stay away from sweets and salty foods! Empty carbs cause you to eat more and more without feeling saturated. If you feel like something sweet, then grab some dried fruit.

There, too, you should look for unsweetened fruits and it should not be more than three to four pieces a day. This is how you can hold your weight.

Eat with all your senses for more awareness

Eat only if you also eat mindfully. This means that you should celebrate food intake. Cook with all your senses. While dining, the TV and mobile phone should be out of range.

Light a candle, put on some relaxing music, make yourself comfortable and chew consciously. If you are aware that you eat, you will find that you are getting satiated much faster.

Exercise in everyday life burns calories

If you do not have time for sports, always take the stairs, make small detours and take short walks. Every step more is good for your figure and helps you to keep your weight.

Keep a food diary for weight control

Get yourself a food diary after quitting smoking. In the evening you should sit down and note what you ate and drank during the day.

Write down when you took the stairs instead of the elevator. In this way, you can keep a good overview of your eating habits and see when you were active and where you could improve to enable a controlled weight loss.

Keep in mind: If you can visualize something, it is often easier to find more effective approaches.

Give up on carbohydrates in the evening

In the evening you should simply take no carbohydrates. Avoid hearty food and eat protein-containing foods and salads instead of a hot meal or bread. Salads can be served in a variety of ways and spiced up with beans, turkey or tofu.

After you stop smoking, turn every Monday into a meatless Monday

Try to avoid animal fats. Smoking cessation can bring the positive side effect of changing your diet, too. The human body often digests and processes animal fats much slower than vegetable foods.

The result is that you are slowly but steadily gaining weight. A vegetarian or vegan diet is not as difficult to integrate into everyday life as you might think. Of course, you do not have to give up meat completely if you do not want that, but how about a meatless Monday?

Sugar-free chewing gum as a cigarette replacement

Always have sugar-free chewing gum, candies and lollipops ready. These can serve you wonderfully as a replacement for a cigarette. Your mouth has something to do and you barely consume calories.

Do this if you are really having a tough time controlling your hands. Little by little, begin to replace the gum, or candies with consciously and deep breathing techniques.

Simply inhale on the count of four, hold your breath to the count of four, and then exhale to the count of four.

Repeat this as long as needed. it usually only takes a cole of repetitions before a calming sensation sets in, which will take your mind off the cigarette craving again.
