All about the linseed oil intake and additional tips for linseed oil usage

Many of our readers take pure linseed oil. Usually early on an empty stomach or right before breakfast to stimulate metabolism and digestion. Another simply linseed oil intake method is to add a tablespoon of oil to your mouth and rinse with a glass of water.

I prefer olive oil or coconut oil (see coconut oil for inflammations) to perform oil pulling, but many swear by linseed oil.

With oil pulling you care for better oral hygiene, because the oil has an antibacterial effect and covers the entire oral cavity with a light layer of grease.

To do this, add a tablespoon of flaxseed oil to your mouth and pull it through the teeth for 10-20 minutes. Then spit out and rinse well.

I swear to oil pulling when I have a mild toothache, because the most common cause is too many bacteria in the oral cavity.

Oil pulling removes toxins from within your mouth and your body system. You can only achieve this with oil and not any commercial oral care products, such as Listerine, for example.

Linseed oil is also suitable for external use. In the case of dry, irritated and itchy skin, it relieves pain and inflammation. Neurodermitics and people who suffer from eczema or psoriasis, in particular, benefit from this.

If you have darker hair, you can lighten it with a few drops of flaxseed oil. Simply rub a few drops in the hair after washing and drying. Argan oil is known for this effect, but flaxseed oil is also suitable.

Linseed oil is not recommended for the preparation of creams, because it quickly becomes rancid. For this reason, you should apply it directly.

In naturopathy and in the monastery school of Hildegard von Bingen, linseed/flax has established itself: Linseed oil with yogurt or cottage cheese is an absolute classic and many appreciate it as a gentle breakfast.

You can also use the oil as a dressing for each salad. I myself use olive oil, hemp oil, MCT oil and linseed oil for dressings, depending on which blends in the salad in terms of taste.

Not everyone likes the taste of linseed oil, so there are capsules available. However, I do not recommend this alternative, because in many cases the capsules are already rancid before they reach you via mail. If you can’t befriend the taste of the oil, grab whole or ground linseeds and sprinkle them over your food.

Linseed oil as wood protection

For centuries, the oil has been used as natural wood protection. It covers the wood with a water-repellent layer and acts as a kind of natural lacquer. The oil does not require preservatives, artificial colors and varnishes!

You can use it for all types of wood, from furniture to fences to facades and beams. Linseed oil penetrates deeper into the wood than acrylates and is dirt- and water-repellent. In addition, it does not form peeling layers.

Please note that it may take a few weeks for the oil to fully retract and the wood to stop being slightly sticky and oily.
