Today I want to talk to you about how to lose weight with type 2 diabetes. Obesity is one of the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes, in addition to inherited predisposition and physical inactivity.
If someone, therefore, suffers from this form of diabetes, losing weight is usually an important therapeutic measure to get the disease under control. Within some people, and under certain circumstances. the type 2 diabetes even disappear after they’ve shed the extra pounds.
Adipose Tissue Impairs Insulin Action
Why do you think is that? In type 2 diabetes, hormone Insulin plays an important role. When we eat carbohydrates, these are broken down in the digestive tract into individual sugar molecules. They will then be transported into our blood as such, thereby raising the blood sugar level.
Insulin causes the cells of the body to absorb sugar from the blood and use it for energy. As a result, the blood sugar level drops again.
In healthy people, insulin ensures that the sugar metabolism is in balance. In type 2 diabetes, this balance is disturbed.
The cells are no longer responding properly to insulin, and doctors are talking about insulin resistance. As a result, less sugar is channeled into the cells, and the blood sugar level is permanently increased.
Insulin resistance has several reasons. One of the most influential, in addition to a hereditary disposition, is overweight.
Because, fat tissue is not just dead weight and burden, but it is on the contrary highly active. This is especially true for the belly fat. Among other things, it releases hormones that affect the insulin sensitivity of the cells.
Fat on the stomach promotes insulin resistance in particular. To learn more about adipose tissue, please read my article ‘Can I lose belly fat naturally? (Pure Facts).’
Losing Weight can improve Type 2 Diabetes
Insulin sensitivity, and thus type 2 diabetes, improves when sufferers begin to shed their extra pounds and start to be active more regularly. A calorie-conscious diet and physical exercise are therefore the basis of any diabetes therapy.
In the early days of type 2 diabetes, blood sugar can often be kept under control by a healthy lifestyle alone. Drinking red tea, combined with a health-conscious diet does actually balance and regulate your sugar level.
To learn more about the many benefits of red tea, read the article about my mom’s and my own success story drinking it. If medication is still necessary after all, a much lower dose is often required.
Those who reduce obesity can also contribute to better blood pressure levels and reduce their risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as a heart attack or stroke. Patients with diabetes are particularly susceptible to these. So losing weight is always worth it for your health!
Important: If people with type 2 diabetes want to lose weight, they should talk about that with their doctor. He can give them tips and advice, such as on target weight, and modify the diabetes treatment if that’s essential.
Because, if the weight improves and thus the insulin effect, the medication and insulin dose usually have to be adjusted. If necessary, the doctor may also refer his patient to a nutritional consultant. It is best to check with the health insurance company beforehand whether it subsidizes such advice.
Losing Weight as a Long-Term Goal
Radical diets promise rapid weight loss in just a few weeks. But experience shows that such renunciation cures really last the least. In addition, many people fall back into their old patterns after they finished such a “miracle diet”, and the lost pounds soon return to the hip and abdomen.
If you want to lose weight permanently, you better rely on a “policy of small steps ” with healthier lifestyle habits: Eat less high in fat foods, calories and be more active. The basic rule is: If you burn more calories than you eat, you lose weight in the long term.
If you’re consuming 500 calories less than your body needs a day for a week, then you’ll lose between one to two pounds in that time. This is the perfect rate of losing weight healthy and safely. To figure out your daily calorie needs, I suggest you use the following app:

Eat Healthier – Without Depriving Yourself
To lose weight, it is not necessary to give up certain foods. Even people with diabetes don’t need special products, they are allowed to eat the same as healthy folks.
There are none of the principles bans, on the contrary – for long-term success, it is important that food remains a treat and you continue to be satisfied.
This helps to look at your previous dietary habits and see where calories can be saved: Can I eat a homemade cereal in the morning instead of buying a thick, deep fried and sugar glazed doughnut from the bakery store?
Is a portion of my favorite fruit just as suitable as a bar of chocolate for a cozy TV evening? Those who save small amounts of calories without tormenting themselves can achieve a lot in the long run.
Overall, foods that have little energy per unit of weight are recommended for losing weight, such as fruits or vegetables. They fill you up relatively quickly, but without eating many calories. Drinking enough is also important when losing weight, preferably naturally calorie-free drinks.
Enjoy Food slowly
Those who are distracted when they eat something tend to ingest more. Therefore, do not eat your meals while watching TV, or on the go when you rush to the subway. Give your food full attention, and take your meals to the table.
Those who eat slowly will not miss the right time to quit. Because the feeling of satiety usually occurs only after 15 to 20 minutes. Those who sludge down their food, often stuff too much into themselves, even though they have already ingested sufficiently.
More Exercise – It will be Fun!
The sport alone is often not enough to lose weight if you don’t switch dietary habits at the same time. Nevertheless, exercise is very important in order to consume additional energy and, thus, reduce weight.
Not just because you’re actively burning calories, but those who exercise, furthermore, build additional muscles that increase the basic amount of energy.
There is no need to become a sports cannon at once. Try to get more activity into your everyday life: Maybe you can cycle instead of drive to work?
Or meet up with friends for a nice walk, instead of in the cafe? And, look for a sport you enjoy. Again, whoever forces themselves to do something is unlikely to succeed in the long term.
Listen to your heart, your inner desires, and you will be soon living a healthier and way happier life.
